| Studio Diary... (Updated June 28) |
| Sörmland | Tuesday, June 5, 2007 |
Studio time again! We'll keep you posted with our progress... Day one - Sunday, June 3 Started the day with a slight hangover from yesterday. We played in örebro with Enemy Alliance, and it was a really nice evening, which had pretty much everything - hugs, farts, punk food, fights and great music. We got to the studio, named Inferno Recording, located across the hall from our practice space, and set up the drums. Mathias nailed four of the songs, and left two for the next day. This time, we took some more time trying to find a good sound without using that much trig. Hopefully it will sound nicer in the end. The studio uses a Yamaha Rocktour Custom to create the mighty power. The snare, however, is a Yamaha 8" Recording Custom. Jeeez! Tracklisting is - "Making bets in a burning house" , "Violence, Coercion, Surveillance", "Where every fucking dream is killed", "Rod of iron", "Alienation Process", "New brooms vs old doctrines " We are obviosly suckers for strange and long titles... Day two - Monday, June 4 Mathias got back to the studio and recorded the last two songs. He's a very sick person. Today, we borrowed a Marshall JCM800 to use, while recording the guitars. The studio has a Peavey 5150, which is a decent rig, but we want the sound to be less metal this time. To get the unique, powerful and sexy sound of Micke, you have to play a Gibson SG '61 reissue. Plug it into a Marshall JCM800 with a Marshall 900 Lead 4X12" and there you go! Evil Kid is more than happy with using his ESP Eclipse with the same setup as Micke. The Great Old Retardo crushes things using a Fender Precision Special, plugging it into an Ampeg B2R (using it as a lineamp) and then rocking the whole shebang through a Delta XR console. Rock! Micke and Niklas stayed until 2AM to finish Micke's guitar tracks. Sweet!
Day three - Tuesday, June 5
Micke and Niklas stayed in the studio until 2AM, so we started a little later this day. Niklas was up for some guitar tracking busines, which he fulfilled excellently. All six songs were quickly put down, and then we had time to record the bass, which also went really quick. It's nice when it runs smoothly. This means we have a day off, until vocal duties on thursday. Nice, so we can finish the lyrics... What's left to do now is guitar fills, solos and vocals. Hopefully we'll be able to finish the session this weekend, or early next week. Stay posted for updates!
Day four - Thursday, June 7
Micke and Niklas went to the studio pretty early to put down some guitar fills and some vocals. It took nearly half the evening to put things into perfection, and then a Geir with a cold could record his vocal parts. After the usual blackouts, things went pretty well, and we managed to finish the recording part. We have to wait for Mathias to get home from Stockholm, before we do anything else, so he can listen with fresh ears. After that, we start mixing on Sunday. Things have run pretty smoothly during the week, apart from some computer problems, causing the whole shebang to stall and restart. Pretty annoying in the middle of tracking...
Day five - Sunday, June 10
We started the session with a thorough listen to the recording, to find any stuff we might have overlooked. Which we had. One backup line needed to be remade, but that was all. After that, Thomas, the engineer, started to copy and paste a whole lot of crap, and he did some minor editing. We made a working mix of two songs, just to take home for judging... We'll listen to the songs at home, and hopefully we don't need to change that much. The rest of the mixing will start on Wednesday, and after that, the super hot hitmachine of Sörmland will be ready to unleash some fucking fury!!!
Day six - Hasn't come yet... We're having some trouble finishing the recording. We weren't all that happy with the raw mix of the two songs posted on myspace, so we were supposed to try to make it sound better. However, Geir went to Hultsfred Festival, and the others had to work, which led to a somewhat strange situation, where the engineer had to mix down the songs with only our suggestions as guidelines. That didn't work out very well, since you need to be in the studio together while mixing it. However, after finding that out, Thomas, the engineer, went on holiday for a week, which meant that we couldn't do anything at all with the recording. Hopefully he will be home tomorrow, so we can finish it up. Finally...
Day six - Tuesday, June 26
Mixing went well! We're done! The master is sent to our buddy Matte P
for production mastering together with Enemy Alliance's rock anthems.
Now all we can do is wait for the record to be released. More info on
that soon.
Love!
