Day 6 - Tuesday May 20
Waking up in Tours, heading out on the road again. This ride took us
all the way down to Bilbao, or rather, a little village just outside -
Trapagaran. This show was moved twice, so we didn't really know what
to expect. We barely found the venue, but eventually we squeezed the
van into a small alley where it lay. The venue was a squatted house,
not that big, but it looked pretty cool once we got inside. On the top
floor, there were some dudes ripping out some basque folk music.
They were playing flutes and tiny drums, and it sounded like something
the composers of Nintendo tunes listen to at their after work
parties. We met the promotor, Arturo, and he greeted us with what we
like the most. A cold one. We went outside, enjoying the sun for a
while.' Us swedes needed to get some colour on our transparent
skin... Today's show had only one supporting band, 5000RPM. Adhesive
played with them back in 2001, and it was fun to see how they've
developed since then. Our set was pretty good, and the crowd was
working really hard! Not many people, but the venue was small, and
they had a nice little moshpit going. Awesome indeed! They also raided
our merchtable pretty well, which helps... We had a nice evening there, and
afterwards Arturo brought us back to his house for a late dinner and
some "fulgrogg". The food was really good, and the hot chili sauce even
better! Thank you Trapagaran!
Day 7 - Wednesday May 21
Today was only a short drive to Zaragoza, where we arrived quite
early . We went strolling in the city for a while, having our usual
coffee orgy. The coffee in Spain has to be the best in Europe.
Strong, intense, full flavoured, but not bitter at all. Damn good
indeed! After the coffee we went searching for shoes and hats, but
found none. In my case, with my ginormous head, finding a decent hat is
like winning the lottery. Anyways, we eventually went back to the venue,
Arrebato. This is a little hole in the wall kind of place, but it's
really cool. Me and Robert had been there once before, on an afterparty
when Satanic Surfers played Zaragoza last time. It was the same
promotor,Gerardo, as then, and he really took well care of us! I've
never seen such an efficient guy work a show before. I'm pretty
sure that if we would have asked him to repaint the venue, wash our
van, start two new bands, practice with them, and play the show
with us, he would just have done it with his typical shrug of the
shoulders. What a cool guy! We had a nice dinner while waiting for
everything to be ready, and we enjoyed ourselves until it was our
turn to rock n' roll. This show was also very nice. Pretty decent
attendance, and we played a solid set. Unfortunately, we had to
drive after the show, since it was like 1000 kilometers to the next. We
booked a hotel in Madrid, and dragged our worn bodies down there. Then we passed out. Thank you Zaragoza!
Day 8 - Thursday May 22
Today was THE day. After seven long years, we were to hook up with
G.A.S. Drummers again. Adhesive toured Spain with them back in 2001,
and we really had a blast together. We kept in touch over the years,
and now it was time for a reunion. We spent most of the day in the van,
of course, but the reward when we finally arrived was really worth
the long trip south. First we headed down to the beach and just lay
there, watching the ocean. So amazing! When it was time to get to
the venue, we had a little trouble finding it, because there really was
no street name to give the GPS gods. After driving through El Puerto de Santa Maria for way too long, we had to call for someone to come pick us up. Thanks! We got to the venue, Sala Babaloo - a really cool place with a big, nice, stage. Just what the doctor ordered! When the G.A.S. Drummers guys showed up, hugs were thrown all over the place. The decibel level increased severely, and
it was soooo nice to meet them again. We had a lot of catching up to
do. We just sat outside the venue and enjoyed life for a while. G.A.S.
Drummers were playing a "special" set tonight, with only their old
stuff. Both us and the audience were really expecting much from their
show, and none were disappointed. They went up and destroyed
destroyed destroyed! What more can I say? Me and Micke were sellouts
tonight, because we joined them on vocals when they played an
Adhesive cover. Fuck us! When we went up, I felt that we couldn't top
their set, but I would sure give it a go. We did our best, and I
think the crowd enjoyed us, as well. We had an unlimited bar tab
tonight, and it goes without saying that we took full advantage of it.
We didn't have to drive, so everybody could join the frenzy. When we
were almost blind, Robert developed "neckus vulturus" and fell asleep
in the bar, we finally left Babaloo. Some of us went for a late
meal, and others went to the next water hole. A really top-notch day!
Thank you El Puerto de Santa Maria!
Day 9 - Friday May 23
Day off today, and we decided to do some tourist activity. We went
down south, enjoying a really scenic landscape, and eventually ended up
in Gibraltar. Our plan was to go there, park the van, and check out
the rock. It went straight down the drain. No parking for the van, a
million cars on the streets, and we were hungry as wolves. We
circled for a while, but gave up and tried to get out of there. It took
us over one hour at the border crossing, but finally they let us
out. We found food at a cheesy gas station, and headed on our way
towards Barcelona, our next stop on the odyssey. We drove up to
Granada, where we checked in quite early, leaving 900 kilometers for the next day's drive. Zzzzzzz.
Day 10 - Saturday May 24
Barcelona. Yes. One of my favourite cities. We drove as crazy so we
could spend some time in the city. We parked the van, went to Dionysos
for a quick beer and a gyro. Then we went off to La Ramblas, being
tourists. We walked around for a while, bought shoes, watched a parade,
took some photographs and stuff. Really nice to be back in
Barcelona. Heading for the venue, we ended up in a nice labyrinth of
streets, with no parking for the van. We had to make a really illegal
parking, in order to get our stuff inside. Afterwards, thanks to the
GPS, we actually found a parking spot not too far from the venue. When
we got there, we met Liam, who plays drums in Straighten things out.
He's a british fella, who we also met while touring spain with
Adhesive. Really cool to meet him again! Four bands on the bill
tonight, and the promotor really went on a spending spree, treating us
like the kings we pretend to be. Or not. 20 people shared 5 bottles
of beer. (there were actually 6, but one bottle was busted...)There
were 4 baguettes, and 2 bowls of sallad. What a feast! 20-something
hungry and thirsty people then played during the night. We only drove for 900kms, and High Five Drive drove for 13 hours straight, so none of us were that hungry... Or maybe we were... There
were a lot of people, so all the bands had a good crowd. Even us, even
though I fell into Micke's amp, knocking it off the stage. Lucky
for me, it didn't break. Way to go! I was obviously not drunk, but I
actually tripped on my guitar stand while rocking it harder than hard. Another day in the life of the old man... Besides the mishap, I really enjoyed the show. It was the hottest, by far, on this tour, and all our gear was humid afterwards. After
the gig, we had to load in really quickly, because the curfew was at 1.
To add insult to injury, it started pouring down. Wonderful indeed. Our
sleeping place, which the promotor when booking us, said to be a hotel,
turned out to be at his mother's house. Really sweet of his mother to
let us stay there. A bunch of dirty, sweaty punks raiding your home might not be what you want for a saturday night. Thank you Barcelona!
