The Indecision Alarm - S/T MCD

Genre: Skatepunk
Origin: Sweden
Released: 2006
Website: The Indecision Alarm
Label: Tic Tac Totally
Uploaded: 19.03.07

Whow, it’s really seldom that I receive such a melodic record, but I’m really glad I do every now and then. Though my time is mostly spent listening to grind, death, black metal etc, I do have a soft spot in my heart for the good ol’ punk rock, since that’s the genre I grew up with. However, I’ve never really been a fan of skatepunk and melodic hardcore as I was more into the classic Swedish trallpunk style as a kid. But when visiting The Indecision Alarm’s website I’m surprised to read that this band consists of a bunch of old Adhesive (among others) members. I even have an old Adhesive CDs somewhere around here! Anyway, let’s get on with the actual review, shall we…
This is the bands debut, and it’s in the fitting MCD format. And I find it fitting since it’s not a fullength. Even though you might be an extremely experienced musician it’s always good to take your time with a few shorter releases before going after the full format. What The Indecision Alarm does here is taking a big bite of the skatepunk ‘a la Millencollin, mixing in a dose of melodic hardcore as well as a bit of just classic punk rock. This creates a very potent assault of energy-driven punk, which should without a doubt satisfy fans of the two aforementioned bands. Though this is not my field of expertise, I do get a Charles Hårfager vibe form the opening riff to Above Us All. This might just be a coincidence, but I still enjoy it!
As you might guess this is a bit too melodic for my taste, but that doesn’t mean I’m so ignorant as to completely dismiss it. It’s obvious that we’re dealing with talented musicians with a clear idea of what they want to play, and how they want to sound – no messing around. A perfect party album for the young punk with plenty of sing along-friendly choruses and choirs!

Tracklist:
01. Time for the big guns, baby
02. Keeping our hands tied
03. Through the bandages
04. Coup de grace
05. Above us all
06. Treadmill
07. The frail strength of one
08. Standing in a culture of losing hope
